For Excellence in Professional Education
Vanessa Menaged and Judi Goldstein accepted the award on behalf of The Renfrew Center Foundation.
Our understanding of what it takes to recover from an eating disorder has been greatly enhanced by the Renfrew Center Foundation's dedication to professional education. Since November, 1991, the Annual Renfrew Center Conference has made an outstanding effort in providing high quality, innovative training to professionals.
Recognizing that women heal in relationship to others, not in isolation, this conference, under the brilliant leadership of Judi Goldstein, has made a deliberate attempt to reflect the feminist values of collaboration, connection, and mutually respectful relationships, while helping to build a safe community where professionals from all over the country can come together to reshape clinical theory and practice, and encourage the kind of personal and professional risks needed to develop therapeutic skills, and deepen an appreciation of those struggling with an eating disorder.
We are honored to have The Renfrew Center in Philadelphia. There is no doubt that without Renfrew, many of our board members and others in the ACTH extended community might never have found their way to developing their expertise in treating eating disorders.
For Commitment to Education and Prevention
Angela Allen and Mara White accepted the award on behalf of ANC.
The Academy of the New Church is made up of four accredited, private, religious schools located in Bryn Athyn. In the past year, The Academy of the New Church Secondary School has made a significant commitment to prevention efforts by implemented programming centered on body image, media literacy, and teaching real facts about nutrition.
In addition, members of the ANC staff, coaches and parents have attended A Chance to Heal events, including our BodyTalk and ParentTalk program, educating both the school staff and parents on the signs and symptoms of eating disorders, and guidelines for promoting self-esteem in students. We are impressed by the ANC community's willingness to take decisive action and commend it for providing a model to other schools. Coordinated programming has included parents as well as students to create a unique community education program.
Best Corporate Message
Kim Austad and Yasmine Ba accepted the award on behalf of Eileen Fisher.
In 2005, Eileen Fisher awarded A Chance to Heal its first ever corporate grant. In the past three years, as A Chance to Heal has grown so has that relationship with Eileen Fisher. Today we continue in partnering with Eileen Fisher throughout the eastern seaboard. We are training store employees on body image and how to respond to customers who have difficulty accepting their own bodies.
Eileen Fisher's corporate message includes an emphasis on individual growth and well-being, collaboration and teamwork, joyful atmosphere, and social consciousness. At the Ardmore and King of Prussia store as well as the corporate offices, we have experienced that message first hand.
Innovation in Education and Industry Standards
Natalie Weathers and David Ciuper accepted the award on behalf of Philadelphia University.
A Chance to Heal's partnership with Philadelphia University began when the University approached our Foundation with an idea to hold a ground breaking fashion show focused on Body Diversity. Through the careful leadership of Professor Natalie Weathers and the help of President Stephen Spinelli, our Body Diversity show drew in more than 300 students, professors, and ACTH sponsors.
As the area's leading fashion design school, Philadelphia University has a unique role in helping the fashion industry think about the way consumers view and interact with their bodies. Philadelphia University has offered programming and resources so that students have real information on body image and nutrition to counter the abundance of misinformation rampant in the world at large. They have encouraged students to think about the influence that they can have on the future of fashion in ways that celebrates body diversity.
Volunteer of the Year
Cheryl Herzog accepted the award on behalf of her sister, Flavia.
Flavia Herzog has extensive experience as a pediatric outpatient dietitian from her years at Einstein Medical Center and has gained grant writing and management experience coordinating the Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Plan. Currently, she is a nutrition consultant for individuals, companies and sports teams and a nutrition therapist with Nutrition Profiles and the Temenos Center where she provides individual nutrition counseling for individuals with eating disorders.
ACTH has been the fortunate beneficiary of Flavia's commitment to giving back to the community. Throughout the past year, Flavia has generously volunteered her time and expertise conducting nutritional workshops for A Chance to Heal and she continues to make significant contributions toward developing and strengthening our educational programming, including her recent development of a male only curriculum for young teens and her feature article in our current newsletter.
With great pleasure, A Chance to Heal recognizes Flavia for all of her extraordinary work, generosity, and expertise in helping to prevent eating disorders in our community.
